This is the home page of BIOL 1080, Environmental Science, at Northwest College, and is intended for use by students in the class. This page will provide you with information about the class and materials that may be used in conjunction with the class. It also will point to other information on the Internet that may aid you in your study of contemporarty environmental issues. Explore and discover both problems and potential solutions.

- Living in the Environment The publisher's home page for your textbook is a rich resource that contains student practice quizes, links to environmental science sites, additional references to those in your text and information about careers in Enviromental Sciences.
- Environmental Science: A Gobal Concern Resource Center This is a publisher's home page for another environmental science textbook that is also a very nice resource for this semester's topics.
IV. WRITING A RESEARCH PAPER
This page provides some guidelines and suggestions for organizing research papers. Included here are details on a common format for citing resources. A full research paper is not required for the class this semester. Smaller position papers are required, however. This set of guidelines may be useful to you in your other classes.
V. Environmental Sciences Internet Sites
The Internet has many sites that cover environmental issues. The following list is simply a starting point for your explorations. Check for others under at the back of each textbook chapter.
- Environmental News Network provides updated links to current environmental news.
- Daily Environmental Science News provides current news items.
- Environmental Resources on the Internet presents a variety of resources available on the Internet. Another excellent place to begin a search for information.
- Eco-compass is an electronic newsletter for those interested in the environment and includes many excellent environmental links.
- EnviroLink Network is an on-line information service that provides access to many different type of environmental information, including the Environmental News Network. Some sections here require a subscription, but many articles and links are available on the site.
- Information Center for the Environmentbrings together scientists at the University of California at Davis and many private, state, and federal agencies.
- Montana Natural Resource Information System is a good source of information on the state's resources.
- Climate Change Atlas for 80 forest tree species of the eastern United States. You can look at predicted changes in the ranges of trees under different climate scenerios. A good reminder that the earth is not static.
- HUD is a government agency that provides a map that will show environmental problems in a community or region that you choose.
On-line Papers, Journals and Publications
- The Billings Gazette This local newspaper covers Montana and Wyoming issues.
- The Casper Star Tribune This newspaper covers Wyoming issues.
- High Country News This biweekly newspaper covers environmental issues in the western states, and back issues are archived here.
- Science News This small weekly digest of general news in the sciences often covers environmental issues and is written in an easily readable style.
- Ecola is an excellent list of newspapers from around the country and the world that provide Internet access.
