WELCOME TO THE HOME PAGE OF John Campbell's BIOLOGY 1010 CLASS
This is the home page of Biol 1010, General Biology I,
at Northwest College, and is intended for use by students in John
Campbell's class. This page is designed to enhance the information you
might get in the lecture and laboratory sections of the class. It will
point you to new and interesting information on the Internet that
simply could not be included in your textbook. Take a look at some of
this information, try some of the quizes, and visit these topic related
sites around the globe and see the rich array of resources designed to
help you with your study of biology.
I. COURSE SYLLABUS
II. LEARNING RESOURCES
- CHAPTER LEARNING OBJECTIVES and ENHANCEMENTSThe
Internet can be a great resource to supplement your textbook. I've
organized two types of information for you. First, for each chapter
you'll find a list of learning and study objectives. These should help
you focus your study and readings. Secondly, I organized some
off-campus internet sites that can enrich your study of each chapter.
- Raven and Johnson's Chapter Learning Tools are study aids from your General Biology textbook. Included here are review tests you may take to check your understanding.
- Mader's Chapter Learning Tools.
Another textbook's study aids. You can access chapter outlines, terms,
study questions and link to chapter-related web sites. You may have to
fish around to find the correct chapters. Chapters 23 to 26 cover
ecology.
- Companion Sites for four different general biology textbooks by Starr. The Basic Concepts of Biology probably comes closest to the detail from lecture, while the other three approximate the detail in your textbook.
III. STUDY HINTS Some ideas on how to do well in the class. Many ideas are simple, but most students will benefit by reading these hints.
IV. PRACTICE QUIZZES
Try these interactive quizzes on general biology. They are provided by
International Thomson Publishers, publishers of Starr's Basic Concepts of Biology,
the textbook for which the quizzes were originally designed. Read and
follow the directions provided with the quizzes, and choose the topics
and chapters in which you are interested. Note that each question may
not be covered in your textbook chapter. You will have to use your
browser's BACK button to return to the BIOL 1010 page when you are
done.
V. A SAMPLING OF BIOLOGY RELATED SITES
- EnviroLink Network
is the largest on-line environmental information service on the planet.
It provides gopher and WWW access to all environmental resources on the
Internet and a free environmental news service.
- WWW Sites of Interest to Ecologists provides access to dozens of ecological sites on the WWW.
